If you have been following me for a while now, you know I’m all about living a more non-toxic life, so today I’m going to show you how to make DIY reusable dryer sheets. You only need two ingredients, some wash clothes or rags, and a big jar, and water!

Regular store bought dryer sheets are filled with harmful ingredients and I definitely don’t want to expose myself to those let alone my children. This simple DIY will help soften your clothes, reduce static, and make your clothes smell amazing, all while being non-toxic!
Are Store Bought Dryer Sheets Bad For You?
The answer is yes. They are filled with harmful chemicals that adhere to your clothes so you are breathing them in all day and also absorbing them through your skin. They will alter your hormones and can trigger asthma along with a slew of other side effects. Many dryer sheets contain ingredients that react with the air to create formaldehyde which is cancer causing. Learn more about the ingredients and their harmful effects at ewg.com.
How Store Bought Dryer Sheets Can Harm Your Dryer
Now that you know all the harmful effects that regular store bought dryer sheets can have on your body, they can also affect the efficiency of your dryer. They can leave residue inside your dryer which in turn makes your dryer have to work harder or longer. You might have to set your dryer again after it has already run through a whole dry time cycle which isn’t great on your electricity bill.

Using Vinegar To Soften Your Clothes
Adding it to your rinse cycle in your washer helps soften, deodorize, & clean your clothes and well as your washing machine. Using it for these DIY dryer sheets will also help soften and reduce static on your clothes and the essential oils will add a nice non-toxic fragrance. I am a white vinegar lover when it comes to using it for cleaning in my home.

How To Make Reusable DIY Dryer Sheets
Step 1
Add 1 cup vinegar & 1/2 cup water to a large container or glass jar and add 10-15 drops of an essential oil of your choosing. I love the smell of lavender so that is always my go to for our laundry. I like to add some water to help moisten the washcloths more.
Step 2
Roll up your washcloths and place them in vertically so they are all evenly spread out and touching the vinegar, water, & essential oil mixture. If you have room for more washcloths you can add more if you would like. Close up the jar and give it a little shake so the washcloths absorb any additional liquid. Before adding one to your dryer, give it a little squeeze over the jar to get excess liquid out. Toss it in your dryer with your clothes & enjoy!
