Ingredients you will need to make quiche w/ caramelized onions & broccoli:
- 1 pie crust
- 6 eggs
- 1 onion
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup broccoli
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp salt for onions & 1/4 tsp salt for egg mixture
- pepper to taste
Materials you will need to make quiche:
- Pie dish
- Wide bottomed saute pan
- Saucepan
- Steamer
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Measuring cups & spoons
- Liquid measuring cup
Step 1:
Prepare your crust and chill in the refrigerator for one hour. While it is chilling you can prepare the rest of your recipe.
The crust recipe that I follow is from Natasha’s Kitchen. You can find her Youtube tutorial HERE, or you can use your own pie crust recipe if you have found one you love. Natasha’s recipe is so simple and comes out buttery and flaky & you won’t be disappointed if you try it!
Step 2:
In a wide bottom pan, heat up 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter on medium-low. Cut up one whole onion in half slices that are about 1/4” wide. Add onions to pan and give a good stir to coat onions in butter. Add 1/8 tsp. salt. Cook until they turn a light brown color while stirring every few minutes to make sure they aren’t sticking. You can add a few tablespoons of water if they are sticking to the bottom of the pan. Set aside when done.
Step 3:
If you are using frozen broccoli, steam 1 cup so it is partially cooked. You don’t want to cook it all the way since it will be cooking for longer in the quiche. Currently, I only have frozen broccoli on hand but you can also use fresh. It is up to you if you want to steam it for a few minutes before adding it to the quiche.
Step 4:
Preheat the oven to 375. Remove the pie crust from the refrigerator and roll out & place in a pie dish. You will want to coat the counter and your hands in flour to make sure it doesn’t stick.
Step 5:
In a large bowl, combine eggs, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Beat until incorporated. Add into pie dish.
Step 6:
Add 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, cut up broccoli, & half of the caramelized onions into egg mixture. Top with remaining 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese & the rest of the caramelized onions.
Step 7:
Bake for 35 minutes on the middle rack. You will know it’s done when the middle is set and not jiggly. Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting into it. Enjoy!
